1. Drawing tutorial This month’s drawing tutorial is sketching a shell in Biro. You can view the tutorial here and also download it as a handout.
2. Exhibitions, courses and things to see Following on from last month’s Black History month Southampton City Art Gallery shares their collection alongside a selection of Nahem Shoa’s own striking oil paintings of black and mixed race sitters. On until 20th February 2021, it’s well worth a look.
Online, why not take a look at the Royal Academy, who have recently released a series of videos: inside the artists’ gardens. These videos, explore the gardens that inspired some of the world's most beloved paintings. All from the comfort of your home!
Lastly, don’t forget that you can watch the Portrait Artist of the year on Sky Arts (Freeview 11) Wednesdays 8-9pm, with repeats on Sundays 6-7pm and Mondays 10-11pm
3. Materials How to trace an image. This is such a simple skill and so useful. Use it either when you want to practise a painting skill and just need an image to work on. Or to transfer your own sketch across onto a more suitable support (paper/canvas) for your medium.
4. 7 days of sketching 7 days of sketching each month. You can build these into your regular sketching practise. Spread them over the month. Or choose 1 week where you sketch each day.
This month’s prompts are all Autumn based;
1. Leaf
2. Berry
3. Nut
4. Orange
5. Brown
6. Dew
7. Fire
I'm excited to see if you draw them or use them to create your sketch! I can’t wait to see what you produce this month.
Do share it on the Student Chatroom.
